From May 2026, lead-free tapware will become mandatory at point of installation in Australia. This move is in response to growing concerns about the environmental and health impacts of lead in plumbing fixtures. The change also reflects a broader commitment to creating eco-friendly products that reduce the risk of lead contamination in drinking water.
The Australian Building Codes Board has provided the industry 3 years to complete the transition due to the extensive work involved for manufactures and suppliers. To support this change, leading brands Nero and Caroma have commenced the transition and already have products available that meet the lead-free requirement.
